INTRODUCTION:(For the moment, only the banner page is translated in English . The other pages are in construction!) This site has the ambition to gather articles, definition (s), bibliographies, index sets of themes about the metaphor.
WHY A SITE MOREOVER ON THE METAPHOR???François Rastier said it has been a few years that the metaphor had become a "invading figure". Indeed, one finds, in the scientific disciplines which took this bet "to theorize it", more than one SCORE of disciplines: cognitive sciences, psychoanalysis, PNL, linguistics, rhetoric, hermeneutic, data-processing, neuropsychology, philosophy, poetic, semantic, semiology, stylistics, phenomenology, pragmatic, epistemology, etc... And more, in each one of these disciplines, there is no always consensus in connection with the metaphor (its definition, its effects, etc...)!! How to interpret the profusion of theories of the metaphor in occident? How to reconcile all these approaches of the metaphor? Can one hope for a theory unified of this one? Does one have only to hope for it? This site would like not to be the place of the answers to these essential questions about the metaphor, but it would like to be a place where the reader can find material in order to have his own answers.
Plan of the website:1 the metaphor in question 2 Transdisciplinarity and metaphor Scientific research on the metaphor starts from very different epistemological paradigms. I analyse three paradigms (attitude of mistrust, disciplinary attitude, transdisciplinary attitude). Then, I propose an attempt at typology the purpose of which is to pin the particular metaphors more closely. 2 Definition of the metaphor ( 1 - 2 - 3 ) (available in french / english version in construction) I deposited on this page some definitions of the metaphor (More than 120!!). Soon, I intend to deposit on the website a classification of the definitions of the metaphor. 4 Articles on the metaphor (available in french / english version in construction) = > I wrote an article turning around the "epistemological statute" of the metaphors in the speech of human sciences . I pinned two radically different manners to consider the presence of metaphors in the Western scientific speech. (ARTICLE) = > C Détrie published on this page an article on the metaphor pinned starting from the praxematic approach. (ARTICLE) = > J Gardes-Tamine published its general presentation of a conference on the metaphor. (ARTICLE) = > C Vandendorpe published its notes of course on the metaphor. (ARTICLE) UPDATE:
Do not hesitate to send ( article@info-metaphore.com) articles treating of the metaphor to me, they will be published on this page. 5 - Bibliography on metaphor (pdf) (available in french / english version in construction) A free transdisciplinary bibliography about the metaphor. It does not have any encyclopaedic claim! It constitutes a base of documentation. It is classified in 3 headings: BOOKS; ARTICLES of reviews; ARTICLES or THESES coming from the Net. It is expanding: i.e. regularly, I update it, at the time of discovered of new works and articles on the question; And they are numerous... 6 List of the scientific disciplines implied by the theorization of the metaphor The reader will be able to also find on this site a page where 20 scientific disciplines are mentioned which theorize the metaphor. With this list of disciplines some key authors are annexed who express themselves in their writings from such or such scientific discipline. 7 Proper names quoted in research on the metaphor It is about an index of the proper names quoted in the French-speaking and anglophone literature scientific and philosophical on the metaphor: It is obvious that I am only at the beginning of this astronomical and gargantuesque statement... The first column of the index takes again the quoted authors, the second the pages where they are it and the third names of the authors (and dates of the publication) of the books in which the authors of the first column are quoted. This index thus will be built progressively... I am for the moment with the sweeping of small about fifteen books (begun again in my bibliography) and some articles. I deposit on the website the bibliography of all the articles (of 1986 to 2003) of " Metaphor and symbolic activity". I also deposit the index of the proper names quoted in this review dedicated to the metaphor.
